Five Kids in Six Years, No Multiples. Our House is Always Crazy, Rarely Quiet, and Full of Love.

Five Kids in Six Years, No Multiples. Our House is Always Crazy, Rarely Quiet, and Full of love.

a weekend away means a lot to do on monday.

Well, there goes daily. I named this blog a daily dose of sugar, hoping the name would help me feel obliged to post at least every day Monday thru Friday. Well, Friday, I did post, but I pulled it. Then…

We took a little road trip this weekend to see family & stuff. On Saturday, we crossed the state line into Iowa, where my husband helped my mother-in-law pull up her new carpet [the people didn't lay it right the first time, so she's getting even newer carpet now]. Then we ventured back to Missouri, where my dad grilled out [it was so so delicious - it's been a while since I've had some home grillin']. And then Sunday, my girls were in a historical bridal fashion show for my aunt {you can read about that here}. And Sunday evening, we finally headed back home.

This is how I looked on Monday.

So, you know what Monday is like with three little kids when the whole family’s been gone for the weekend? They all have tons of energy and you have none…zip…zero…zilch. My creativity was at a zero as well {I find it often coincides with my energy level}. I was so blocked, I couldn’t design, I couldn’t write. I had bags to unpack {we always come home with a lot more than when we leave}, laundry to do, packages to ship {items sold on eBay}, and I had to go grocery shopping. And the kids have had an adult ratio of 1+ adults to each kid all weekend, so they’re wanting every ounce of unattainable energy & attention from me.

And since I’ve been contemplating planning a cooking day {a few months back, I started Once a Month Cooking [OAMC]}, I thought it would be smart, while the kids were napping, to start looking through recipes {from a new cookbook I can’t wait to tell you about} and make a grocery list. Then, after my husband got home, I went to the post office & the grocery stores [I went to five different stores last night].

I came home utterly exhausted and with a migraine [it started out as a mild headache before I even left home]. Bottom line, I didn’t get anything posted yesterday. Nor work on any design stuff. And I still need to send out evites for a Pampered Chef party I’m having on Sunday.

Next time we have a weekend away, I’m going to need a plan for tackling Monday, whether that is just taking Monday off to adjust from the weekend {a time to unpack & not do any work} or some other creative plan.

I’m open to any tips, ideas, tricks & advice you have. How do you tackle Monday after a weekend away?
