In Review: Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam

Last weekend was the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam show at the Sprint Center. The boys were on Cloud 9. They couldn’t take their eyes off the Monster Trucks. And rightfully so. The trucks were fast, jumped high, destroyed cars & looked good doing it. (Did you know that it takes more than 40 hours – on average – for those beautiful paint jobs?) Backdraft was really cool – it looked like a fire truck with sirens and lights (one of Lil’ Man’s faves). And Captain America was rockin’ it all night long.

For Lil’ Man the highlight was when a couple Transformers came out & battled. The transformer vehicles drove into the arena, transformed & then started shooting loud fireworks at each other. The good guy had a flame thrower, and at the end he left the kids with a lesson. He said that just as he was sent to Earth to fight evil, that all the kids in the audience had good in them, that they should use to make the world a better place. On the way home, Lil’ Man was so tired, but he still kept muttering “…robot. Robot, Dad..meh neh meh neh… robot.” Lil’ Man is still talking about them & pointing them out in the souvenir book. (You can see a video of an older performance from the same transformers here.)

If you’re planning on attending a Monster Truck show, you should take into account the noise. Monster Trucks are loud. I had warned my husband about how loud they are, but he was still shocked when the first truck came out. My mother-in-law brought earplugs, but of course the boys were not crazy about these little things stuffed in their ears. Thankfully, they do sell earplugs and related items at the show (note: they’re not cheap). The boys each got a pair of Monster Truck tire earmuffs ($20/each). They loved wearing them & they helped protect their little eardrums. (They still wear them around the house.)

Disclaimer: The tickets were given to me by Feld Family Events. However, we would have purchased some anyway because Lil’ Man is obsessed with trucks. In fact, we’re planning on going the next time Monster Jam is in Kansas City. Miss Boo & Miss Cakes want to go too, so we’ll be buying at least 6 tickets.

In Review: Phineas & Ferb LIVE

Last week, I took Miss Boo & Miss Cakes to Phineas & Ferb LIVE at the Independence Events Center. I knew the girls would love it, but I wasn’t so sure about my mom (who went with us) or myself. However, both my mom & I were pleasantly surprised because the show was awesome!

Miss Cakes said it was the “best show EVER!”

The show itself lasted about 90 minutes:

  • 30 minute first half
  • 15 minute intermission
  • 45 minute second half

During that time, Phineas & Ferb were determined to make Summer last forever. Meanwhile, every character had their “spotlight” moment where they got to choose what they wanted to do. This included Candace getting to create the best pair of pants – however her pants were attacked by squirrels which brought on the popular Phineas & Ferb song: SIMP > Squirrels In My Pants.

There were fun props, such as this huge Monster Truck that rolled onto the stage:

That was followed by marshmallow bumper cars & the characters performing with marshmallow shoes.

The backdrop to the whole performance was a large screen that changed throughout the show & added an interactive touch to the character action on stage. A huge elephant moved across the screen at one point & the bottom of his trunk stuck out from the bottom of the screen. Sitting on the bottom of the trunk was Phineas’ & Ferb’s friend Baljeet. Baljeet hopped down from the trunk and an Indian dance number was performed (my favorite of the show).

Later some disco dancers came out and disco balls went from appearing on the large backdrop screen to being thrown out to the audience for us to bounce around. I was truly amazed at the timing of the on stage actions with what was going on in the backdrop screen, plus the accompanying audio. Perry & Dr. Doofenshmirtz had a half on-screen, half on-stage fight. (Which included one of them being on the screen & the other on the stage at certain points.) Perry even did a back handspring on stage!

The show was packed with musical & dance numbers and the kids were encouraged to dance in their seats. I found myself wanting to get up & dance. My mom said it was the best kids show she’s ever been to. Overall, Phineas & Ferb LIVE was a fabulous show and if you have the chance to go, I highly recommend it!

Disclaimer:: Tickets were provided to me by Feld Family Events. But it’s my personal opinion that the performance was definitely worth the ticket price. And please excuse the quality of the above photos as they were taken from my phone ;)

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam in Kansas City {Giveaway Is Over}

This giveaway is over. Congratulations to our winner: Amy R.!

Lil’ Man loves cars & trucks. If you’ve ever been around him, even for just 5 minutes, you know that he can’t stop talking about trucks or cars or car trucks. So when Feld Family Entertainment informed me that Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam would be coming to Kansas City, I knew Lil’ Man would have to go. He’s been through a lot this past year — more than most 3 yr olds — and I think he deserves a little spoiling. {If you’re new here, Lil’ Man was diagnosed with NF1 last year.}

Feld Family Entertainment has generously given my family 4 tickets for Monster Jam and 4 tickets to give away!

Monster Jam will be at the Sprint Center February 8-10 for a total of four performances:

I have a confession. When I was younger, my parents took me to a Monster Truck show. I told them I wouldn’t like it. I sat there with my arms crossed as the show began… and I loved it! It was so much fun! The trucks were noisy, but it was so cool watching them drive over cars. Not sure I ever admitted to my parents that I thought it was awesome. {So Mom, Dad, if you’re reading this… I had an awesome time at that Monster Truck show.}

So, about the giveaway…

The giveaway ends at midnight 2/3/13. There are multiple ways to enter the contest (just see the rafflecopter below).

The 15 Minute Food Rule

{via} Our kids have become quite the picky eaters. We tried punishing them. Sending them to bed early. Putting them in time out. Taking away privileges of watching a show after dinner. Nothing was working. Stubborn kids. No idea where they got that from. Sometimes the girls would like the food & eat it, butContinue Reading

Moments to Treasure with Miss Cakes

I’m really enjoying my walks with Miss Cakes. This week, we walked by a park & stopped to play. {Here she’s telling me that the people at her brother’s school told her not to climb up the slide, but she’s not listening to them.} On our way home, she pointed out all the people whoContinue Reading
